A Chicago man is now facing a murder charge more than six months after a woman was found dead inside her South Side neighborhood.
According to Chicago police, 37-year-old Brandon Jones has been charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the death of 41-year-old Carolyn Jones. Investigators say the arrest brings a major development in a case that had remained unsolved since late last year.
The investigation began on the morning of November 26, 2025. Around 6:30 a.m., officers responded to the 6800 block of South Calumet Avenue in Chicago’s Park Manor neighborhood after Carolyn Jones was found unresponsive. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Carolyn Jones lived on the same block where her body was discovered, adding another layer of heartbreak to the case. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled her death a homicide, determining that she died as a result of strangulation.
For months, few details about the circumstances surrounding her death were made public. Investigators continued working the case behind the scenes while family members waited for answers.
That breakthrough came this week when police tracked down Brandon Jones in Washington, Indiana. Authorities said he was arrested Monday in the 100 block of North Fourth Street and identified as the person responsible for Carolyn Jones’ killing.
As of now, police have not released information about what led up to the homicide, the relationship between Brandon Jones and Carolyn Jones, or what investigators believe may have motivated the killing.
Brandon Jones was scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing following his arrest.
For Carolyn Jones’ loved ones, the arrest marks the first major step toward accountability after more than half a year of unanswered questions surrounding her death.
