Father And Son Charged After Deadly Road Rage Shooting On I-10 East Near The I-95 Split In Jacksonville

A father and son are now facing charges after a deadly road rage shooting on Interstate ten in Jacksonville left one man dead, three other people wounded, and a three-year-old child caught inside the vehicle during the gunfire.

The shooting happened on September eighteenth, twenty twenty-five, on I-10 East near I-95 North. Jacksonville police said District One patrol officers responded after receiving a call about a shooting on the interstate.

When officers arrived, they found four people inside an SUV suffering from gunshot wounds. Three of the victims survived, but twenty-six-year-old Toby Robinson died from his injuries. Police said a three-year-old child was also inside the SUV during the shooting, but the child was not injured.

According to investigators, the case started as a road rage confrontation. The victims were traveling east on I-10 when a dark-colored vehicle came up near them. Police said some type of exchange happened between the vehicles before someone inside the dark vehicle opened fire into the SUV.

The gunfire struck all four adults inside.

The shooting shut down the I-10 and I-95 split for hours as detectives worked the scene and began searching for the vehicle and the person responsible.

For months, the case remained under investigation. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detectives later said they used multiple investigative tools to identify the suspected gunman.

Investigators eventually identified forty-three-year-old Leonard Bryant Senior as the person accused of firing into the SUV. Police also said his twenty-two-year-old son, Leonard Bryant Junior, was involved after the shooting.

Bryant Junior was arrested on December seventeenth, twenty twenty-five. Investigators said he is accused of being an accessory to the murder and tampering with evidence.

Bryant Senior was taken into custody on June nineteenth, twenty twenty-six, after a SWAT team located him. He is now charged with murder in the death of Toby Robinson, along with four counts of attempted murder.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the arrests came after a nine-month investigation into a shooting that turned a road rage dispute into a deadly attack on a crowded interstate.

The case now moves forward in court as prosecutors prepare to handle the charges against both father and son.
