On June 16, 2017, Sherrod Rhyme known online as Poppie from TW was at L&P Foods & Candy Warehouse on 7047 South State Street when a customer asked for help carrying groceries to her vehicle. He stepped outside during a normal work shift, but the police file shows that moment became part of a much larger gang-coded murder investigation.

The War Behind The File

The report does not frame the shooting as random. The case was marked gang-related, with the conflict coded as GD versus BD. Online, Poppie’s name became tied to one of Chicago drill’s most talked-about war timelines, but the official file tells the story in a colder way: a targeted move, a maroon four-door vehicle, one confirmed shooter, and a public record that still does not name who was inside the car.

The Maroon Car

The vehicle is the center of the mystery. According to the file, it reversed toward the group, moved around them, and stopped close enough for a passenger-side subject to exit. After the shooting, the same vehicle fled northbound on South State Street and disappeared out of frame. The public file does not identify the driver, the shooter, or where the maroon car went next.

The Evidence Problem

For years, people argued over what really happened. Some online comments claimed an AK was used. Others pointed to the recovered shell casings and said the street version did not match the evidence. The firearms lab report pushed the case in a different direction: 11 fired 9mm Luger casings, all consistent with one firearm.

The Part The Preview Does Not Show

The full file goes deeper than the headline. It breaks down the witness statement, the surveillance summary, the gang-conflict coding, the evidence inventory, the hospital timeline, the 9mm lab findings, and the online confusion around the weapon, the shooter count, and the maroon car.

Inside the full case file, the official report and the street version are separated piece by piece: what detectives documented, what Reddit argued, what the lab report proved, and what the public record still does not explain.

This is the work shift, the war, the vehicle, the evidence, and the unanswered question at the center of one of TW’s most debated murders: who was inside the maroon car?
