On January 12, 2024, gunfire erupted inside and around a barbershop on Washington Boulevard in Baltimore’s Pigtown neighborhood. Surveillance showed two masked men entering the business before Deon “Rio” Beasley attempted to escape toward Scott Street.

The footage captured the attack—but not what brought the gunmen there.

The Silver Odyssey

Roughly 30 minutes later, police and Foxtrot pursued a silver Honda Odyssey connected to the area. The vehicle became one of the most important pieces of the investigation, yet nearly 22 months passed before four men were charged.

What detectives uncovered during that gap would eventually divide the defendants into four alleged roles.

The Evidence Trail

The case expanded through two calibers of shell casings, discarded clothing, DNA testing, a recovered firearm and cellphone evidence investigators believed connected the men surrounding the shooting.

Defense attorneys later challenged who controlled the phone, what its contents actually proved and how portions of the digital evidence were handled before trial.

The Verdict That Changed the Case

The first jury did not decide the fate of the two men prosecutors identified as the shooters. Instead, it considered whether two other alleged participants could be convicted of murder without firing the fatal shots.
