BALTIMORE — Woman Arrested for Fatal Stabbing During Street Fight in Northeast Baltimore

A 25-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in Northeast Baltimore earlier this month. Karin Redfern is accused of killing 26-year-old Demetri Briscoe during a violent altercation on June 1 in the 3000 block of Westfield Avenue, according to court documents.

Police responded just after 2 a.m. following multiple 911 calls about a fight in the area. One caller reported that a group of people, including Briscoe, had aggressively come to her home looking for her son and were kicking her front door. Her son wasn’t home at the time, but shortly after, he and his girlfriend — identified as Redfern — arrived at the house.

A fight broke out in the street soon after their arrival, during which the woman’s son was knocked to the ground. She ran inside to call 911, but when she came back outside, everyone involved in the fight had left the scene.

While canvassing the neighborhood, officers were alerted by a resident who found a bleeding man — later identified as Briscoe — on her porch. He reportedly got into a dark-colored car and left the scene before police arrived. Meanwhile, investigators discovered a trail of blood and various personal items scattered across the area, including phones, jewelry, and clothing.

Briscoe later arrived at Franklin Square Hospital in Rosedale with stab wounds but died shortly after at 2:39 a.m.

As the investigation continued, an officer went to MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital to search for others who may have been injured in the fight. There, he observed a gold Infiniti with Virginia plates pull up. Redfern exited the vehicle along with two men. She had visible injuries to her hands and knees, and one of the men was bleeding from his face.

A blood-stained kitchen knife was seen in plain view on the front passenger side floor of the car. Crime scene technicians collected the weapon and other evidence from the vehicle.

Redfern and the others were taken to Baltimore Police headquarters, where she agreed to speak with detectives. According to charging documents, Redfern confessed to stabbing Briscoe. She told detectives that during the brawl, she entered a nearby house, grabbed a knife from the kitchen, and returned to the fight, eventually stabbing Briscoe — although she initially didn’t realize he had been seriously injured.

A witness later corroborated Redfern’s account of events. She has since been arrested and charged in the homicide.
