Chicago Man Arrested Months After Near-Fatal Chatham Stabbing

CHICAGO — A Chicago man has been charged with attempted murder months after police say he stabbed another man during a violent attack in the Chatham neighborhood.

Authorities identified the suspect as 25-year-old Christopher Benson Jr. Police say he is accused of stabbing and seriously injuring a 32-year-old man on February 21 in the 8500 block of South Calumet Avenue.

After the stabbing, investigators worked to identify Benson as the suspect. Nearly three months later, police arrested him on May 12 in the 2400 block of West Belmont Avenue on the city’s North Side.

Benson is now facing one felony count of attempted first-degree murder.

Police have not released full details about what led up to the stabbing or whether the two men knew each other before the attack.

Benson was scheduled to appear in court Thursday as the case moves forward.
