MEMPHIS — Two men have now been indicted in connection with a deadly shooting at a South Memphis gas station that left one man dead, while investigators continue searching for a third suspect who is still on the run.
According to Memphis police, the shooting happened on October 6, 2024, at a gas station in the 1700 block of South Parkway East. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found 27-year-old Brandon Malone suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Malone was rushed to Regional One Hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
Investigators say surveillance footage and witness statements helped detectives identify multiple suspects tied to the shooting. Authorities allege the attack was targeted and involved several shooters who opened fire at the gas station before fleeing the scene.
A Shelby County grand jury has now indicted 21-year-old Jermichael Taylor and 22-year-old Deandre Phelps on charges connected to the killing. Both men are facing first-degree murder charges as the case moves through the court system.
Police say a third suspect has also been identified but has not yet been captured. Authorities continue searching for him and are asking the public to come forward with any information that could help lead to an arrest.
The shooting left residents in the area shaken, as investigators spent hours collecting shell casings and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
Family members of Malone have continued demanding justice, saying the young man’s life was taken in a senseless act of violence.
Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting, but investigators believe all of the suspects involved knew each other before the deadly encounter.
Authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives continue working to locate the final suspect still at large.
