Chicago Man Turns Himself In After Woman Found Strangled to Death Inside South Side Home

CHICAGO — A Chicago man is facing murder charges after police say a woman was found strangled to death inside a South Side home before the suspect later turned himself in to authorities.
Officers responded Monday night to a residence in the 8000 block of South Colfax Avenue in the city’s South Chicago neighborhood. When police entered the home, they discovered a 29-year-old woman unresponsive inside the residence.
The Cook County Medical Examiner later determined the woman had been strangled and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly launched a homicide investigation as detectives worked to determine what led up to the woman’s death.
Roughly two hours later, police say 30-year-old Travion Cooper walked into the Chicago Police Department’s 2nd District station and turned himself in.
Authorities charged Cooper with first-degree murder in connection with the killing.
Police have not yet publicly released additional details about the relationship between Cooper and the victim or what may have led to the deadly incident.
