Family Identifies 2-Year-Old Boy Killed During Domestic Dispute at Jacksonville Apartment Complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 2-year-old boy is dead after police say a domestic dispute between adults inside a Jacksonville apartment turned deadly when a gun went off.

The child has been identified by family as A’mahri Robinson, a toddler they described as the “happiest baby,” someone who brought joy to everyone around him. His death has left relatives devastated and struggling to process what happened.

According to investigators, officers responded just before midnight Sunday to the Valencia Way Apartments, formerly known as Eureka Gardens, on Labelle Street. When police arrived, they found A’mahri suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital, but he did not survive.

Police say the shooting began during a domestic dispute involving adults inside the home. At some point during the argument, a gun was fired. Authorities have not released further details about exactly how the shooting happened.

After the gunfire, one of the adults involved ran from the scene. Investigators are still trying to identify and locate that person. Police have not said whether the person who fled was the shooter, but they say a photo and more information will be released once that identity is confirmed.

Two other children under the age of 10 were inside the apartment when the shooting happened, but they were not hurt. Family members said A’mahri also leaves behind an older brother and sister.

Police said everyone who remained at the apartment when officers arrived has been cooperating with the investigation. Meanwhile, the family is now left planning funeral arrangements for a little boy they say filled every room with happiness.
