CHICAGO — 19-Year-Old Arrested After Allegedly Kidnapping Baby and Tossing Her Over Fence

Nickolas Watts, 19, is facing serious charges after allegedly kidnapping his two-month-old daughter and tossing her over a fence during a dispute with the mother on Friday in Edgewater.

Prosecutors stated that Watts got into an argument with the 18-year-old mother of his child around 12:23 p.m. at the Granville Red Line station. During the altercation, Watts allegedly took the baby from her stroller and kicked the mother in the face before fleeing the scene.

Witnesses told authorities that Watts threw the baby over a fence and then jumped over to continue his escape. Police recovered the baby and arrested Watts around 12:44 p.m. in the 1000 block of West Glenlake. The baby was found to have fractures but is expected to recover.

Judge Sabra Lynne Ebersole ordered Watts detained, and Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth confirmed Loyola University Police assisted CPD with the initial 911 call.

Watts was previously arrested in April on domestic battery charges after the same woman alleged that he punched her. The case was dropped after the woman failed to appear in court, according to public records.
