Jackson police say a fourth suspect has now been arrested in a triple homicide that killed two sisters and a two-year-old child inside a home on Queen Alexandria Lane.
The shooting happened on Saturday night, June 27, 2026, in the 300 block of Queen Alexandria Lane in Jackson, Mississippi. Officers were called to the home around 9:15 p.m. after a shooting was reported.
When police and first responders arrived, they found three victims inside the residence. Authorities later identified them as 25-year-old Keyana Weathersby, her 30-year-old sister Erica Weathersby, and Keyana’s 2-year-old son, Camari Givens.
Investigators said all three victims had been shot multiple times and died from their injuries.
Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney described the killings as a horrifying and vile crime. She said the two women were attacked, and she specifically pointed to the killing of the toddler, calling him defenseless and saying the case needed the community’s help.
From the beginning, police said the victims appeared to have been targeted. Chief Brackney also said the child was not simply caught in crossfire, making it clear investigators believe the toddler was intentionally killed during the attack.
As the investigation developed, police made multiple arrests.
Cornelius Carter and Jordan Carter, both 28 years old and not related, were arrested first after what police described as a short chase. Both men were charged with capital murder and denied bond during their initial court appearances.
Cornelius Carter also faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A third suspect, 25-year-old Mikayla Young, was arrested soon after. She was also charged with capital murder and denied bond in Jackson Municipal Court.
Then police announced a fourth arrest in the case.
Authorities said Devone Modacure was taken into custody in Forney, Texas, by the U.S. Marshals Service and Texas law enforcement. Police said arrangements were being made to extradite him back to Mississippi, where he is expected to face a capital murder charge tied to the triple homicide.
The case also took another major turn when Chief Brackney announced that a rifle believed to have been stolen from a marked Jackson Police Department vehicle was used in the shooting.
According to police, multiple weapons were recovered during the investigation. Early findings from the Mississippi Crime Lab indicated that the stolen police rifle was connected to the killings, though officials said the full forensic analysis had not yet been completed.
Chief Brackney said responsibility for the crime rests with the people accused of stealing the weapon and using it to commit the killings.
Police have not released every detail about the motive, but investigators have said the shooting may have been connected to a robbery.
For now, four suspects are facing charges in a case that has shaken Jackson and left a family mourning two sisters and a two-year-old boy. The investigation remains active as authorities continue preparing to bring the latest suspect back to Mississippi for court proceedings.
