HOUSTON — Murder Charges Filed in 2024 Death of 69-Year-Old Man

A man and woman have been charged in connection with the October 2024 murder of 69-year-old Alton Martin, but the woman remains on the run.

The incident occurred on October 29, 2024, at 2400 Gregg Street, near Downtown Houston. Houston Police responded to reports of an assault and found Martin severely beaten, suffering head trauma. First responders rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on November 8, after a weeklong battle for his life.

An autopsy revealed that Martin died from blunt force trauma to the head. Investigation led police to identify Latrecia Nicole Washington, 50, and Marshall Paul Garrett, 38, as the prime suspects. They are believed to have attacked Martin, causing the fatal injuries near where he was discovered.

Garrett is currently in custody at Harris County Jail, while Washington remains at large. Police are urging anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
