CHICAGO — Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Robbing Multiple Subway Locations
Nicholas Wardford, 32, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a series of armed robberies targeting Subway sandwich shops in downtown Chicago and Melrose Park.
Wardford has already pleaded guilty to five separate robbery cases, with one more still pending. Prosecutors provided details of his crimes, including an incident on July 15, 2023, when he entered a Subway at 1232 South Canal, grabbed a drink from the refrigerator, and, after approaching the register, pistol-whipped the cashier before stealing money from the register.
Just days later, on July 18, 2023, Wardford robbed another Subway at 604 South Wabash, demanding money from the cashier at gunpoint.
On July 29, 2023, he targeted a Subway at 8345 West North Avenue in Melrose Park, where he again threatened the cashier at gunpoint. Wardford was arrested later that day by Forest Park police after being spotted with a firearm at a 7-Eleven store.
In addition to the Melrose Park case, Wardford was charged with robbing the Canal Street location on June 25, 2023.
Judge Mary Margaret Brosnahan sentenced Wardford to three concurrent 15-year sentences for the Chicago robberies, while Judge Eulalia De La Rosa imposed another concurrent 15-year sentence for the Melrose Park robbery in April 2024.
Wardford will be eligible for release after serving half of his sentence.
