More than a month after a mass shooting at a crowded party near Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Oklahoma, prosecutors have announced charges against three people accused of playing roles in the violence that left one person dead and more than 20 others injured.
According to the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, 18-year-old Jaylan Davis and 21-year-old Daviion Wyckoff have both been charged with first-degree murder and multiple additional felony offenses connected to the May 3 shooting at the Scissortail Campground area of Arcadia Lake. A third defendant, 23-year-old Breonn Morton, has been charged with accessory to a felony. Prosecutors said all three are being held on $10 million bonds.
The shooting happened during a large, unauthorized gathering promoted on social media as a “Sunday Funday” event. Authorities said hundreds of young people from across the Oklahoma City metro area gathered at the campground that evening. As the crowd grew, a fight reportedly broke out before multiple rounds of gunfire erupted across the area.
Police received reports of shots fired shortly before 9 p.m. Officers responding to the scene encountered a chaotic situation with victims scattered throughout the campground and surrounding areas. Multiple law enforcement agencies and emergency medical crews rushed to assist the wounded.
The violence claimed the life of 18-year-old Avianna Smith-Gray, who was struck by gunfire during the shooting. More than twenty other people were injured, making it one of Oklahoma’s largest mass shooting incidents in recent years. Victims were transported to area hospitals by ambulance while others sought treatment on their own.
Investigators spent weeks reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and tracking down suspects. Earlier in the investigation, authorities announced additional arrests tied to firearm-related offenses connected to the shooting. One of those defendants, Trinity Brown, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and firearm possession allegations after investigators linked her to the incident.
The newly filed murder charges mark a major development in the case. Prosecutors allege Davis and Wyckoff played direct roles in the gunfire that led to Smith-Gray’s death and the injuries suffered by numerous others. Court proceedings are expected to continue in the coming months as investigators finalize evidence and prepare for trial.
The Arcadia Lake shooting drew national attention because of the large number of victims and the fact that the violence erupted during what was supposed to be a recreational gathering. Authorities have continued urging witnesses and anyone with video footage from that night to cooperate with investigators as the case moves forward.
