BALTIMORE — Officer Injured, Suspect Critical After Police-Involved Shooting
A man is in critical condition and a Baltimore police officer was shot in the foot during a police-involved shooting near Pennsylvania Avenue and Laurens Street, officials confirmed.
According to Police Commissioner Richard Worley, the incident began when officers attempted to stop a man they believed to be armed. The suspect fled on foot, prompting a foot chase.
During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly fired at officers, striking one in the foot. In response, three officers returned fire, hitting the man. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The injured officer was taken to Shock Trauma, and their injury is not life-threatening, police said.
Commissioner Worley noted that a large crowd gathered and followed behind the officers during the chase, making it difficult for police to render immediate aid to the suspect.
Upton Station has been closed until further notice. The Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is now handling the case.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
