CHICAGO — A suburban woman is now facing multiple felony charges after allegedly shooting someone she knew on Chicago’s West Side.
Police say 43-year-old Alexis Dumas, of Schaumburg, was taken into custody Friday night, just about two hours after the shooting happened in the Austin neighborhood.
The incident unfolded around 9:27 p.m. in the 800 block of North Latrobe Avenue. Authorities say a 39-year-old woman was parking her car when Dumas approached her and suddenly opened fire before fleeing the scene.
The victim suffered multiple graze wounds and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.
Police were able to track down Dumas nearby in the 5300 block of West Chicago Avenue later that night.
She now faces several serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and unlawful use of a weapon.
Investigators have not yet said what led to the shooting or what the exact relationship was between the two women.
Authorities also noted that Dumas has had prior arrests in recent years, including cases involving assault and traffic-related offenses.
The case remains under investigation as she faces court proceedings on the new charges.
