Suspect Arrested Months After Deadly South Side Chicago Shooting

CHICAGO — A Chicago man has been arrested and charged with murder months after a fatal shooting on the city’s South Side.

Police say 36-year-old Curtis Pruitt is accused of killing a 41-year-old man during a shooting that happened in August 2025. The victim was found wounded near a sidewalk in the 5600 block of West 56th Street and was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The arrest came about seven months after the shooting, following an investigation by Chicago police detectives. Authorities have not publicly released many details about what led up to the shooting.

Pruitt is now facing first-degree murder charges and was scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing this week as prosecutors seek to keep him in custody while the case moves forward.

The investigation into the fatal shooting remains ongoing.
