MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Three Women Charged After 11-Year-Old Girl Found Dead With Traumatic Injuries
Authorities in Myrtle Beach are investigating the tragic death of 11-year-old A’Kyri Bell, who was found unconscious and severely injured earlier this month. The case has now led to multiple arrests, including a murder charge.
Around 6 p.m. on June 11, Horry County Police responded to a home on Sago Palm Drive after receiving a report of an unresponsive child. Officers discovered A’Kyri with extensive blunt force injuries described as “suspicious in nature.” She was rushed to a hospital but later pronounced dead.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office confirmed that A’Kyri died from multiple blunt force injuries and ruled her death a homicide. Officials noted that A’Kyri was from Texas but had been staying in Myrtle Beach with a woman believed to be a cousin of her father.
The day after the incident, on June 12, police arrested and charged Lakesha Burnett (34), Alantis Thomas (21), and Camisha McGaskey (31) with obstruction of justice. Each woman was booked into the Horry County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
Then, on June 18, authorities announced that Camisha McGaskey now faces an upgraded charge of murder in connection with A’Kyri’s death. Investigators have not yet released further details about McGaskey’s exact role or the events leading up to the killing, but the case remains under active investigation.
