Cacey Williams, 34, a man with a history of burglary convictions, has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of home break-ins in the Lakeview area. Williams, who previously served prison time for burglary in 2013 and 2015, is now accused of committing three residential burglaries since 2022.

Williams is linked to a burglary that occurred on April 4, 2024, at a home in the 1600 block of West Byron. During the break-in, Williams and an accomplice allegedly stole items worth approximately $5,860, including purses, jewelry, perfume, an Xbox controller, AirTags, backpacks, and wine. Surveillance footage from the victims showed the burglars casing the home before breaking in through a kitchen window while the resident briefly stepped out.

Prosecutors also tied Williams to two other burglaries: one in the 1900 block of West Byron on November 16, 2023, and another in the 4300 block of North Ashland on December 9, 2022. The latter burglary resulted in losses totaling $18,000.

Williams was identified through DNA evidence. He reportedly entered the homes by breaking through back windows. In court, Judge James Costello ordered Williams’ detention, citing the damage he caused to the victims’ sense of safety.

The recent burglary victims had already taken the initiative to investigate the crime themselves, even identifying Williams’ name before police made the arrest. CPD had initially not pursued footage from neighbors, but the victims launched their own investigation, which led to Williams’ identification.

The second suspect seen in the surveillance footage remains at large.
