CHICAGO — Armed robbers abducted a man in front of his West Side home early Saturday morning, forcing him to withdraw money from an ATM in an incident captured on surveillance footage. The abduction was one of several robberies reported in the area around the same time.

Ring camera footage showed the man arriving home in the 800 block of North Parkside via Uber at around 2:22 a.m. As he exited the rideshare and approached his front gate, a dark-colored SUV pulled up behind him. Two armed men emerged from the vehicle and confronted the victim.

The robbers searched the man’s pockets for valuables. One of them then forced the victim to unlock his phone, while the other returned to the SUV. After struggling with the phone for about 40 seconds, the second robber returned and dragged the victim toward the vehicle.

The robbers forced the man into their SUV and drove out of the camera’s view. The victim later revealed there were two additional assailants inside the vehicle.

“They didn’t harm me too much because I didn’t resist,” the victim shared in a social media post. “I told them I’d give them money but asked them not to kill me.”

According to a Chicago police spokesperson, the 39-year-old victim was struck with a firearm as the suspects demanded money. They drove him to an ATM in the 1800 block of North Cicero, where they forced him to withdraw cash. After taking his money and other belongings, the robbers abandoned him at the ATM and fled.

“I managed to escape after giving them the money because they wanted me to return to the car,” the victim wrote. “They had two guns. Thank God I’m alive!”
