ALABAMA — Authorities in St. Clair County say a Springville woman is now facing multiple felony charges after investigators accused her of attempting to kill herself and her three young children inside a running vehicle parked in a garage.
According to arrest documents, 42-year-old Alicia Cheramie Cade was taken into custody after deputies responded to a disturbing situation involving her and her children. Investigators say Cade allegedly locked herself and the children inside a vehicle while the engine was running inside a closed garage, creating what authorities described as a potentially deadly carbon monoxide situation.
Officials say deputies were able to intervene before the situation turned fatal. The ages of the children have not been publicly released, but authorities confirmed all three were minors.
While deputies attempted to arrest Cade, investigators say she resisted and struck one officer in the jaw during the confrontation.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office has now charged Cade with three counts of attempted murder, along with resisting arrest, second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, and residence arson.
Authorities have not yet publicly explained what led up to the incident or whether there were prior domestic or mental health concerns connected to the case. However, court records reportedly show Cade has faced previous legal issues, including earlier charges involving menacing and public lewdness, as well as failures to appear in court.
The case has shocked many people across the Springville area because of the allegations involving multiple children and the dangerous conditions investigators say were created inside the garage.
Officials have not released additional details about the condition of the children or whether any of them required medical treatment after deputies arrived at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing as Cade remains in custody and prosecutors move forward with the attempted murder case.
