Memphis Mother Accused of Trying to Run Over Child’s Father and Grandmother During Violent Family Dispute

MEMPHIS — A Memphis woman is now facing serious felony charges after police say a heated family confrontation escalated into chaos when she allegedly tried to run over the father of her child and his mother with a vehicle.

Authorities identified the suspect as 24-year-old Deja Carter. According to investigators, the incident unfolded on May 14 outside a home in Memphis during an argument connected to co-parenting and family tensions involving the child’s father and grandmother.

Police say the confrontation became physical and emotional before Carter allegedly got inside a vehicle and used it as a weapon.

Investigators claim Carter accelerated toward both victims while they were standing near the residence. Witnesses reportedly told officers the victims had to quickly jump out of the way to avoid being struck.

According to police records, one of the victims suffered minor injuries during the incident as panic erupted outside the home. Authorities have not publicly released the full extent of those injuries, but investigators described the situation as extremely dangerous because of how close the vehicle came to hitting both victims.

Witnesses at the scene reportedly described people screaming and scrambling as the vehicle moved toward the victims. Police say Carter fled the area shortly after the confrontation.

As detectives investigated the incident, officers gathered statements from witnesses and victims before locating Carter and placing her under arrest.

She is now facing charges that include aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Investigators have not released complete details about what triggered the original argument, but police believe the confrontation was connected to an ongoing domestic dispute involving the child’s family.

The case highlights another violent domestic-related incident where investigators say emotions escalated into potentially deadly violence.

Authorities say the investigation remains active as the case moves through the court system.
